One Year Later

A year ago we named you
The child of our youth.
Too many years we couldn’t claim you
Or voice what was the truth.
We wonder what you would be like.
A blonde curly haired girl
With eyes of deepest blue
That Daddy would pick up and twirl.
A chubby little toddler
A lanky long legged child
A beautiful slender teenager
Who is so sweet and mild.
All the youthful heartaches
That come with living life
Then all too soon you would be
A mother and a wife.
We dream of you our child
See you as you might have been
You wait in Heaven up above
Shawna, child of our love.
