The Reflection

The reflection in my mirror,
Can that really be me?
What happened to the young girl?
It’s an old woman that I see.
Not just the wrinkles,
Or the gray in the hair;
A sadness lurks behind the eyes,
Why is it always there?
The many miles I have run,
The world that has no peace,
The emptiness I feel inside,
Will the pain never cease?
Love surrounds me everywhere,
So many who truly care.
How do I let myself be,
Taken unaware?
When I open up my heart,
It leaves me open wide
For others to tear my sould apart,
And destroy what’s left of me.
The sun shines warm upon my face,
Soothing away the pain,
It seems to me like forever,
There has been nothing but rain.
Can it break the cycle,
Of feeling so broken?
The words need to come,
But they can’t be spoken.
Afraid of the pitfalls,
Of speaking my heart,
Please someone help me,
Cuz I can’t start.
